what do you play at home?

Post by schwan » Tue, 27 Jan 2004 01:40:49

When I play pool at my house I find it hard to concentrate. One friend
told me to play regular 8-ball with stripes, then spot the 9 ball and
play 9-ball for the rest of the game.

I typically play just regular 8-ball, but I think Im going to branch out
and practice one pocket, 9-ball, and banks.

Has anyone heard of a pocket insert that would let you play 3-cushion?

I usually play 8 ball and 9 ball when a friend comes over. I usually play 9
ball as a practice game. I quit playing pool with my wife, she won't listen to
me......LOL.

There are inserts that allow you to play 3-cushion.  I have a set.  They're
pretty old and give no clue as to manufacturer.  They're held in place with
a clamping device and a large butterfly nut (hand-tightened).

The inserts are ok but don't really act like real cushions they just
keep the
balls from going in the pockets. I had a set years ago and you see
them on ebay
every now and then. When the balls hit them it's like a unglued
cushion you hear
a thud. But better than nothing. Plus the billiard balls are to big
for the rails. Good luck anyway.

Now that I think about it, she usually does what she wants to do, no matter
what I say. Damn it! She has me trained.

I play Fargo when I'm alone and practicing at home. I keep myself very
honest about my score and keep a chart of my scores.  When I miss a
shot(that ends the game in Fargo)I set up the shot again, reshoot the shot
until I can make the shot three times in a row.

I do not play anything "at home."  However, when practicing, I always play
straight pool, even if I am warming up for a nine ball game.

I remember seeing Zuglan when he was really playing good, winning the Eastern
States, etc.  He would go to nine ball tourneys and warm up playing straight
pool with Bill Dunsmore.  Seemed to work pretty good for Zuglan.
