Salem, Ind. (January 8, 2003) -- Lefthander Chassis has renewed its
sponsorship of the Lefthander Challenge with the Sunoco Super Series for
the 2003 season. This will be the sixth consecutive year that Lefthander
Chassis has sponsored the award with the Sunoco Super Series, which was
won by series rookie Tim Phillips this past season.
The Lefthander Challenge awards a Bare Offset Lefthander Chassis to
the Sunoco Super Series driver who is in the top fif*** in final
season points that advanced the most positions in series events during
the season. Phillips advanced a total of ninety-seven positions over
the twenty-race season in 2002. Scott Wolfe advanced the second most
positions with eighty-one. Scott Hantz was a distant third with
thirty-nine positions gained followed by Junior Hanley in fourth with
thirty-four positions gained and Bull Baker rounding out the top five
with thirty positions gained.
Prior winners of the Lefthander Challenge include two-time Sunoco Super
Series Champion Brian Ross, a two-time award winner also in 1998 and
1999. 2000 Series Champion and 2000 Rookie Of The Year Scott Hantz in
2000. Jim Crabtree Jr. won the award winner in 2001.
