but the Marlboro Team Penske car was handling very well - especially in
traffic. I just tried to keep up with the leaders and fortunately we were
able to bring it home in a good position. To finish third after starting
seventh is very satisfying. The race conditions were a lot like we
expected after practicing here for the past three days. We earned some
valuable points and maintained the lead in the Championship (Castroneves
leads the IRL Championship point standings with 315 points). I had a lot
of fun out there and the track got better and better as the race went on.
I'm also very impressed with Kansas Speedway - the track is really smooth
and the facility is wonderful. We just have to work hard, stay focused
and continue earning points towards the Championship."

"At the start of the race, we were able to gain three positions (de
Ferran started 21st and was 18th at the end of the first lap). From
there we just picked our way through the field and ran as high as second.
The Marlboro Team Penske car was very good - especially in traffic - but
we just didn't have the speed. I needed someone fast to draft with, and
unfortunately we had a little problem on our last pit stop which put us
back a bit causing us to lose the draft. At that point there was nothing
else I could do. It was a good, tight race and I really enjoyed it. We
gave it all we had but we didn't have the ultimate speed to win. We
brought it home in the points which is what we needed to do (de Ferran
maintains second place in the IRL Championship point standings with 307
points). Now we need execute in Nashville."
