Bike Vs Coker Vs 24" Muni

Bike Vs Coker Vs 24" Muni

Post by simon » Thu, 20 Mar 2008 01:22:55

Hi

Im getting into distance unicycing but i only have a 16" learner and a
24" muni. Obviously the 16" is out of the question but the 24" still
isnt up to much.

So, how big is the difference between a 24" with 170mm cranks and a
36er with 150s or 125mm cranks?

Also, how does a 36er compare to the speeds of a normal bike?

Thanks for anything you can tell me!

There is very little comparison between a 36" and a 24" MUni.  The
cruising and top speeds are probably double on the 36".  Most people
would want to start with 140/150mm cranks on a 36", but many switch to
125mm over time, depending on the terrain.

A decent rider on a 36" on uphills can keep up with bicyclists who are
moderately weaker.  On the flats, he can keep up with bicyclists who
are significantly weaker.  On downhills, he can't keep up.

yup, basically there is no comparison between a 24 and a 36, two
completely different beasts.

Last year I was averaging 20km/h with my 36er with 127s, I was not much
slower with 150s. Last time I rode with bikes was the Waskesiu MS bike
tour and I finished before the majority of the bikers but I was in much
better shape than the average rider. If I was on a bike I could have
easily took an hour off my time. I rode the last 20km alternatively
passing and being passed by a lady who was 68 years old (who also
obviously finished before the majority of the riders).
