How do I fit Roach cover over Miyata seat?

Post by teachnda » Mon, 29 Jul 2002 00:53:08

Hi all,

I am trying to build up an air seat and I started tinkering with
the seat last night.  I had a heck of a time trying to get the Roach
seat cover over the seat base.

The Roach cover I have was bought recently and has a thin mesh fabric
that runs along the bottom of the cover.  It is made up of two pieces of
fabric that just overlap near the middle.

I assumed I should stretch the seat cover around by inserting the seat
base into the front and then stretch the back end around.

The seat cover is not very elastic and I am affraid I will rip
something.

Any thoughts?

Also, I can't see how the cover bottom will stay intact if I use my
handle? I will have to put some holes into the fabric to get access to
the bolts.

What is goin on with this?

Thanks

Work the maze.

How do I fit Roach cover over Miyata seat?

I went ahead and cut the black mesh away and fitted the seat on like a
standard Miyata seat cover.  I later removed the clips on my miyata seat
and then drilled  1/16th holes at the same height as the origional clips
were and then sewed my seat cover onto the seat directly.
About the Roach seat cove, Make sure that you reinforce the seams before
using the seat cover.

I bought my Miyata seat pre converted, but took it apart yesterday to
straighten out the bone shaped sleeve that holds the tube. I simply
forced the cover off and later back on. I removed the bumpers first,
then then the back of the Roach cover and finally the front. I noticed
that unicycle.com had cut holes for the three front and two back bumper
bolts.

Hope that helps.

Unfortuneately, this seems to be a common problem.   Check out this

Rhysling,

You did it again! :D  Thanks for the references to the archives.  I
totally forgot about it. I will archive the Pokey Pokey link myself.

Rod -

I recently made an air saddle with the dogbone thing but instead of a
Roach cover I used the "Recycled" cover also offered at unicycle.com.  I
went with the Recycled because its open on the bottom therefore avoiding
the problems with the Roach cover that you're having fitting it with a
rail adapter.  There's room for the rail adapter without having to cut
anything.  I've added a couple pictures of it to a gallery located
here:

http://www.unicyclist.com/gallery/CNC-handle

I'm using the front handle and rear bumper to help hold the cover on as
well as the strap and gromets that are part of the cover.

OOPS!

The cover I'm talking about is ReeCycle not Recycled!

Hi Steve,
Great looking handle and bumper. Any idea when or if they will be
made available for purchase. Thanks for the info on the Reecycle cover
and the pics are great. Later, gator.
