anyone cut seat post clamp off of semcycle?

I'm having trouble with my semcycle XL.'s seat post.  The back of the
post has been dented in pretty well by the improper clamp design.  The
dumb clamp is welded/brazed on at the top and really only applies
clamping pressure at the edges of the slit cut in the downtube.
I'm planning on cutting off the clamp with a little cutting
disk.  Then I will either bend the downtube round again or cut the out
of round part off and make a new slit.  I'm also working on getting a
proper sized clamp that applies the force more uniformly around the
post.
If anyone has had this problem please drop me an email
describing your solution if any.

Thanks.
