I saw kris in new world disorder 2 hopping of stuff with a peddle kick
i think, in bike trials you push explosivly on your peddles to lurch
the bike foreward for clearing gaps, do you do the same on a uni to
clear gaps, say, from traintrack to traintrack, or do you just lean
foreward and hop?

James

Ps, damn cool unicycling kris, i wouldnt
do most of those drops on my trials bike!

kris holms peddle kicks

I haven't found it effective to pedal kick in the same way as a bike trials rider would.  For me
it seems that any increased forward momentum is negated by a decrease in stability.  The pedal
kick style would also mean you'd have to face directly towards the gap (OK for gaps with the seat
between your legs but not for seat out in front).  Maybe someday someone will come up with a good
pedal kick style on a uni, because bikes can gap way farther than unis with this technique.

For me the most effective way to gap is usually with the seat out in front, oriented diagonally
towards the obstacle (definately seat out in front for across or upwards gaps, often seat between
the legs for downhill gaps).  One important factor is to start your gap with your tire overhanging
the edge of the obstacle you're balancing on.  This means that as you lean forwards and spring
towards the gap, your tire can push against this edge.
